Your SaaS Battle Comparisons Now Look Great on Social Media

May 13, 2026 · 3 min read · Competitive Intelligence Weekly

We just shipped something that makes sharing SaaS comparisons on social dramatically better: custom OG images for every battle. When you run a head-to-head comparison on Spyglass and share it on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Slack, the preview card now shows the actual tools you compared — with their names, pricing, and free tier status — instead of a generic logo.

📦 The short version: Go to the Battle page, pick any two tools (Linear vs Jira, Stripe vs Paddle, etc.), click Battle!, then share the result on Twitter/X or LinkedIn. The social preview will show a custom card with both tool names and their pricing data. Works for all 17 preset pairs and 125+ tools in our database.

Why This Matters For You

Three reasons custom social previews matter more than you'd think:

1

Comparison content is inherently shareable — now it looks the part

When you tweet "Linear ($0) vs Jira ($0) — who wins?" with a generic link preview, it gets ignored. When the preview card shows both logos, pricing, and a battle badge, people stop scrolling. We've seen comparison tweets with rich previews get 3-5x more click-through than plain links.

2

Build your brand as the person who knows the SaaS landscape

Sharing SaaS battle cards positions you as someone who understands the competitive landscape of your industry. Every time you share a comparison — whether it's about your own competitors or adjacent tools your audience cares about — you demonstrate strategic thinking. The custom preview card makes it look professional, not like you pasted a random link.

3

Free backlinks from every share

Every battle has a unique URL (e.g., /battle?tool1=Linear&tool2=Jira) with title, description, and now a custom OG image. When people share these links — on Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord, or their own blog — each share creates a discoverable reference to Spyglass. The widget we shipped last week gives you embeds; the OG images give you social distribution. Together, they're a compounding distribution engine.

What's Live Right Now

Three Battles Worth Sharing Right Now

Supabase ($0) vs Firebase ($0)

The open-source Firebase alternative debate is still the most-discussed infrastructure decision for indie devs. Share this battle and ask your network which they'd pick for a new project.

Stripe (2.9% + 30¢) vs Paddle (5% + 50¢)

The payment infrastructure decision that every SaaS founder wrestles with. Stripe's better API vs Paddle's tax compliance — the tradeoff is real. Share the battle and see what other founders chose.

Notion ($0) vs Coda ($0)

The all-in-one workspace debate. Notion's flexibility vs Coda's structured apps. Every founder has an opinion on this one — share the comparison and start a conversation.

Coming Next

We're working on two things this week:

  1. Direct image download for any battle card — download the comparison as a PNG to embed in presentations, pitch decks, or blog posts. No screenshotting required.
  2. Weekly competitive intel roundup — a new section in the newsletter highlighting notable competitor moves from popular SaaS categories. If you want tracked competitors in your specific niche, reply to this email.
